Concealed fire door hinges

Concealed fire door hinges overview

Samuel Heath is a leading developer and supplier of concealed fire door hinges, or concealed door closers.

They are often referred to as fire door hinges, but in fact they are concealed door closers with outstanding performance and reliability when used as a fire door.

Notably our products are BS EN 1634-1 approved for use on one hour and half-hour fire doors and BS 476 tested for one-hour and half-hour fire doors.

Concealed fire door hinges are hidden within the leaf of the door and the door frame. When the door is closed, the hinges cannot be seen. This provides a smooth, contemporary aesthetic as well as functional benefits.

Concealed fire door hinges are designed to withstand the extreme heat of a fire and ensure that the door closes fully. In the event of a fire, a concealed fire door hinge prevents the door from moving out of the frame which would allow flames to get through and increase the pace of the fire.

The fire rating of a concealed fire door hinge is determined by the duration of resistance to fire it can withstand. As a guide, a concealed fire door hinge with a fire rating of 30 minutes or longer is considered to have a high fire rating.

Benefits of concealed fire door hinges

Benefits of concealed fire door hinges

A concealed door closer prevents the spread of fire and smoke, thereby protecting people and buildings.

Concealed fire door closers not only create a seamless, contemporary look, they also contribute to a building’s safety standards and fire rating.

Because the concealed fire door hinge is hidden away inside the door leaf and frame, it doesn’t provide a surface upon which dust and harmful bacteria can multiply, making it ideal for healthcare settings.

Traditional concealed door hinges present a ligature risk. They are also susceptible to vandalism and accidental damage. These issues are avoided with concealed fire door hinges.
